Another
season of Wolfpack Lax is now history. The final
games have been played.
7/8 White finished their season off at Cleveland HS, taking on Lake Forest Park-Shoreline in what sounded like an epic struggle. Although ultimately coming up on the short end, reports are that our guys kept their poise when the opposing coach got a bit out of hand. (This was the same coach who at the beginning of the season, was ejected from the Purple’s game for excessive arguing with the officiating crew.)
Although they lost this contest, the White were in it, fighting back to come within three by the final horn.
The 5/6 squad met their rivals from North Seattle at Magnuson Field. In what reports call the quickest contest ever, (game completed in 61 minutes), the 5/6 guys played their final game with their heads held high. It’s always tough for coaches and parents when they feel that a winning season has eluded them, but for most the old “there’s more to winning...” adage rings true. Thanks to Coach Quincy and his staff of parent/volunteers, these boys got a great introduction to the game, which was brand new to many of them. Hopes are high that we can field this team next year, where they will play much better with a year of experience to build on.
The 7/8 Purple had a disappointing loss to North Seattle, also at Magnuson. Our guys appeared to be sleep walking most of the game, taking a season low number of shots. The defense was constantly on their heels, trying to respond to North Seattle’s fast breaks. The final was 11-4. It just wasn’t in the cards today for the Purple, but reports are that they all enjoyed the season, and are all looking forward to continuing with the game next year, and this summer as well...
Speaking of summer, there are numerous summer lacrosse opportunities for players at every level. A good summary of those available are available from WALAX.
There will also be a summer camp opportunity of special interest to all those Wolfpack players entering 7th, 8th, and 9th grade in the fall. Our own Ryan Kelly, coach of the Garfield High School Men’s Lacrosse Club, will be providing his own Lax camp experience this summer. Held the final week of July at Georgetown Playfield, Ryan will be bringing in four of his ex-players, now playing for Ivy League schools back east. This will be an excellent opportunity to expose participants to high school level coaching, and will definitely help improve LAX skills. You can get more information here regarding registration, costs, etc.
Finally, a word to all from Wolfpack Central. We have thoroughly enjoyed this past season, and wish to thank all coaches, volunteers, parents, and players for all the hard work that was done these past few months. Through your efforts, many young men have been introduced to a great sport, one that not only helps our guys develop physically, but also serves as an arena where good character is built and strengthened. LAX is a sport like no other, one built on traditions 400 years old.
Whether our players move on to compete at a higher level, or perhaps, may have played their last game, it is our hope that each one has developed as a man. It has been a pleasure working with you all, and your players, and we look forward to the next season of Wolfpack Lacrosse.
While this may be the last regular posting of this season, we will continue every now and then to update you on LAX happenings that may be of interest. Coming up on Saturday, May 30th at Memorial Stadium at Seattle Center is a day of lacrosse, filled with all-star games for all levels, culminating in the High School Championship game. If you want to see the game played at a high level, don’t miss this opportunity. It’s always a lot of fun to have a large Wolfpack contingent on hand and cheer on the action.
