Week 9 Game Schedules (and other news)
The games for this Saturday, May 2nd are as follows:
7/8 Purple travel to Woodward Middle School to face 7/8 Bainbridge Gold for a 12:30 pm start.
7/8 White hosts 5/6 Bainbridge Blue in a 10am contest at Cleveland HS.
5/6 Wolfpack will also travel to Woodward MS in a 4:30 pm game against Bainbridge Gold.
3/4 Wolfpack has a 1pm contest against 3/4 Northshore West at Bothell HS.
For those teams traveling to Bainbridge via the Wa State Ferries:
It looks like there is a 10:35am boat out of Coleman Dock that arrives in Bainbridge at 11:10am that would get 7/8 Purple at the field by 11:30am for their 12:30pm start.
There is a 3:00pm sailing out of Coleman that would get the 5/6 guys to the field about 3:50pm for their 4:30pm start. The boat before that one leaves Coleman at 2:05pm which would get you to the field about 3pm.
Please double check all ferry times and schedules, and check with your coaches if you have any questions.
Starting with next week’s Tuesday practice (5/5/09) Central Seattle Lacrosse will be moving practices to Cleveland High School. The remainder of the season’s practices will be there since the Samoan cricket players have the field. Practice times will remain unchanged, from 5pm to 6:30pm.
Week 8 Game Results
A scheduling snafu between the league, a children’s charity and Seattle Parks and Recreation led to an abrupt end to Saturday’s Lax activities at Cleveland HS. At the start of the 5/6 game yesterday, play was curtailed when a Parks official informed team officials that the field had been reserved for the charity’s use and that we had to cancel or relocate. This is after the field had been reserved for our use earlier this year. While still unclear at this time, it looks as if the field had been “double booked.”
The 5/6 game, already underway, had to be suspended. Unfortunately, our guys were down 4-0 to the powerful Eastside Crusaders at the time. The game officials on site decided that the game would be counted in official standings. We know that this was a disappointing outcome for all involved, not only for our guys and Coach Quincy, but also for their opponents who had made the trek all the way from the Sammamish Plateau.
In the earlier 10 am game, our 7/8 Purple Squad suffered a resounding defeat to their Eastside counterparts. In a game that was characterized by two distinct halves, the early going saw some absolutely inspired play by Central’s smothering defense. We held the powerful visitors to a 2-goal advantage at halftime. The second half saw a complete reversal of fortune, and Eastside seemed to score at will. That coupled with an anemic Central offensive led to the 15-2 final.
It should be noted that Eastside is a league that was once part of the powerful Issaquah system, and feeds into Eastside Catholic’s High School program. This year they have over 120 kids in their 3/4 program alone, fielding 7 teams in that age group. By the time their players reach their final middle school years, their teams are comprised of cream-of-the-crop players, all with many years of Lax experience. Our guys fought as hard as they could, but unfortunately, were simply outplayed.
In an amazing display of cooperation between League officials, Seattle Parks, and coaches and parents from both teams, the 3/4 contest with the Magnolia/Queen Anne Propellers was moved to an alternate location for their 1 pm game. Switched to a field several miles away, everyone cooperated by somehow getting the word out to players and supporters of the change in location at the last moment. The field was hurriedly set up and marked, with play getting underway only ten minutes past the scheduled start.
This was a fun game to watch, with excellent play on all sides. Our offense was pretty complete, with some actual passing taking place! Excellent goalie play by “Mighty” Miles provided a highlight reel of saves that even had the opponent’s benches cheering. The final tally was a 7-7 tie. Great effort, guys.
The award for traveling the farthest this week goes without a doubt to the 7/8 White team who traveled to the outback of Kitsap County to face the 7/8 Kitsap squad. In what was a breakthrough game, the Wolfpack came out strong, allowing their opponents little chance to catch their breath. The Wolfpack defense was stingy as well, allowing only two scores the entire day. With multiple goals by multiple players, the White opened the floodgates to post a final 15-2 tally. I’ll bet the ride home from this game was a bit different than that of their others! Congratulations to all, both players and coaches on what had to be a satisfying win.
We here at Wolfpack Central would like to, once again, thank all those who pitched in this past Saturday to help with the whole field relocation thing. It is pretty amazing what can happen when we all work together toward a common goal. I think our kids learned a valuable lesson as well, directly observing the positive outcome that was achieved.
Week 8 Game Schedules
7/8 Purple hosts the 7/8 Eastside Crusaders, starting at 10 am at Cleveland High School.
The 5/6 ‘Pack hosts the 5/6 Eastside Crusaders at 11:30, at Cleveland.
The 3/4 Wolfpack will host the 3/4 Magnolia/Queen Anne Propellers starting at 1 pm, also at Cleveland.
These will be the final home games this season for these three teams.
Our 7/8 White team will be doing the long haul to Seabeck Elementary to meet the 7/8 Kitsap squad in a 1 pm start. Please note that this game was originally scheduled to start at 9 am, but was rescheduled early this week. This field is approximately a 90 minute drive from Seattle. For those of you planning on taking the Bremerton Ferry, it looks like there is a 10:15 am boat that should get you to the field about 11:30-11:45. Please double check all ferry schedules.
All players are to be at the field between 45-60 minutes prior to game time to warm up.
Good luck to all of our Wolfpack teams!!
7/8 White Game Time Change
We wanted to get this info out as soon as possible.
Week 7 Games
The 7/8 Purple have a 9am faceoff against 7/8 Queen Anne at Queen Anne Bowl.
The 5/6 Squad also meets Queen Anne in a match slated to start at 10:30 am, also at the Bowl.
As it has been in the past, parking looks to be tight in the area. Players are reminded to arrive at least 45 minutes prior to scheduled start times, or whatever your coach requests...
The 3/4 Wolfpack travel to Ferucci Jr High in Puyallup for a two game marathon. The first game sees them squaring off against 3/4 Puyallup in a 9 am start. The second match, starting at 10 am, sees our guys going up against 3/4 University Place.
The estimated drive time to Ferucci is about 50 minutes (from The Swamp), so please plan accordingly. No matter how you slice it, it looks to be an early day for our younger players (and their families)!
Our 7/8 White Team is inactive this weekend.
Week 6 Game Results
Here is an excerpt from Coach Milton’s summary...
Nice job, fellas......Well, we had a nice week culminating in a very convincing win today at Northshore West. We had 10 Wolves there today and got help from 4 members of Northshore East. The final was 13-4 in a very well played game. I was impressed by the other team, but I think our discipline in execution was the difference in the game. Our clears were absolutely awesome today with all 4 elements, Goalkeeper, Defense, Midfield and Attack participating to a degree we had not seen before. We started off slow and it looked like we would have a long day of very little hustle. They got up 3 goals to 1 quickly, but then our guys really turned it on did not look back. We went 2 1/2 quarters without giving up a goal as the defense really locked it down and Gio had some awesome saves. EVERYONE improved and played very well today and I am really proud of their progress. We had a few players with their best games so far today and I want to acknowledge Dar, JT and Beau since they are new and Gio since every week he continues to step into the cage and get better and better...
Week 6 Game Schedules
OK, this one is pretty easy. With the exception of the 1 pm 5/6 Wolfpack game against Northshore West at Bothell Highschool, all games have been cancelled for Saturday 4/11/09. Too many kids are gone for Spring Break to field a full squad, from either side.
It also appears that the 7/8 White game scheduled foe next week (4/18) has been cancelled as well.
The 5/6 team may play a smaller 7-on-7 game or the coaches are trying to find some subs to fill out the squads on both sides, but at this time the game will go on. Bothell High’s field is one of the better turf fields in the area, so the coaches would like to get the boys out and running to take advantage of it. It is best to keep an eye out for direct communication with Coach Quincy regarding any late breaking developments.
We here at Wolfpack Central are on our own short break as well, and we’ll be back in touch next week.
No 7/8 Purple or 3/4 Game on 4/11
And as a reminder, there will be no 3/4 game this Saturday, 4/11/2009 as well.
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
Week 5 Game Results
The results are in for Week 5’s games, and they are not good. Turns out the only thing spectacular about this past weekend was the weather! The LAX was good, but unfortunately, our teams were all on the short end of that stick.
The 7/8 Purple ran into the 7/8 Bainbridge White buzzsaw on Saturday morning. The Purple were down several players, players who if they had been there, may not have saved this game, but most certainly would have kept it from being the blowout that it was. Our guys played hard, but their obviously stronger, better prepared Bainbridge counterparts proved to be too much for our guys. No worries here, as Bainbridge White represents the cream of the Island’s 8th grade players, most of whom have been playing since 2nd grade. It proved to be a real test for keeper Danny Strick, who was shelled nonstop from the opening whistle. The game’s only real highlight was defender Alex Ballanger’s taking the ball from his end, going coast-to-coast for the Wolfpack’s first goal. The final was 12-2.
Our 5/6 Squad met the 5/6 Lynwood team in the second game at Cleveland HS. Lynwood mounted a tough, tough attack which was able to move the ball, exploiting some soft spots in the ‘Pack’s defense. Our guys played well up till halftime, but after that it seemed that staying in the game was a bit of a chore. No one needs to hang their head, however, this was a tough loss to swallow. Goalie Gio McCray-Vallejo stayed strong, even after absorbing a strong shot off his shin, which hobbled him for a bit. He sprang back, doing all he could do to guard the crease. The final score here is of no consequence; suffice it to say it was not pretty.
The 3/4 Wolfpack rounded out the action at Cleveland with a 1 pm contest against Northshore. Going up against a well established program like Northshore is always a challenge. It looked like all their Spring break vacations were over, as they brought out their entire squad. Our guys were down to a bit more that half of their normal numbers, which actually allowed ample playing time for all. It looked like some of our lines have finally settled in to their roles. Our guys showed better team play, looking for the open man, and passing just a bit more. This was a much closer game than the first two ‘Pack games of the day, but since we don’t score them officially, I couldn’t tell you that we were down two goals at the final buzzer.
The 7/8 White played 7/8 Lynwood Highlanders in an away contest yesterday afternoon. Details are sketchy, however we did hear that it was a hard fought contest which resulted unfortunately in a 9-2 loss for the White team. Kudos go out to Josh Campbell and Dylan Moorleghan for platooning at keeper in yesterday’s contest.
Just a quick word about next weekend’s games. Since the Central Seattle Lacrosse Club draws from so many different middle school programs, we invariably seem to have issues this time of the year with players and their families being on Spring/Easter break. I know for a fact that the 7/8 Purple team is trying to reschedule their next game, as some coaches and players will not be in town. The 3/4 team will NOT have a game next Saturday. We have not heard anything definitive regarding the other teams in the program.
If you can’t attend next Saturday’s games please, please, PLEASE contact your coach ASAP so that games may be rescheduled. Also, check here throughout the week for changes to your team’s schedules.
We are only a clearinghouse for information, we can/do not influence League schedules. Your coaches will have the most up-to-date information available. We will post that information as soon as we are made aware of it.
Games Upcoming for Week 5 (4/4/09)
The weather looks promising and we are looking forward to another full day of Wolfpack Lax action!
The ‘Pack once again hosts another Cleveland HS homestand this weekend, starting with a 10 am contest which sees the 7/8 Purple hosting the powerful 7/8 Bainbridge White, their premier team. This could prove the toughest test yet for our Purple Squad.
The 5/6 Central team will host the next game, a 11:30 am faceoff against 5/6 Lynnwood. This could be the Wolfpack’s breakout game, as this team is gelling nicely.
Our young 3/4 squad will have a 1 pm contest against 3/4 Northshore. Only one game this week for these guys, so look forward to a high energy game.
Also at 1 pm, the 7/8 White will face the 7/8 Lynwood Highlanders in an away contest at Meadowdale Middle School. We look forward to our guys putting up a good fight in this very winnable contest. Good luck, guys.
As always, if you will be unable to attend this week’s games, or any other week’s games, please contact your coach as soon as possible. As we approach the Easter/Spring break season, some teams may have trouble getting enough players. To avoid a forfeit, some games may be able to be rescheduled IF your coach has enough advanced warning.
Remember, please be at the field at least 45 minutes prior to your scheduled start, suited up and game-ready. Make sure you have all your equipment, including a mouthguard, ready to go.
Good luck this weekend!!
